First Impressions - Punta Umbria

My first wander from the hotel was great - first bird seen being Crested Tit (well after House Sparrow and Spotless Starling!)

There were a pair feeding young and getting quite agitated by the keen bird watchers who found them and then proceeded to watch - totally unaware that they were actually standing right next to the nest site.   Needless to say the other folk wandering by were causing no issue at all.

I had been told to look out for Dartford Warbler in this area too - and my source was very reliable, for within a few more yards they were heard and although sightings were quick flashes, their presence was thoroughly enjoyed.
Planting to protect the area

The wildflower list started well too with Vipers Bugloss, Wild Rocket, Knapweed, Navelwort, Blue Pimpernel, Rock Rose species, Fennel, Gorse and many, many others that I could not even begin to name.   All this within the Enebrales de Punta Umbria.  This is a protected area behind the beach and mainly comprising sand dunes with Umbrella Pine giving shade and cover for this fragile environment.

Its great that within an area which is built up with tourist accommodation there is still a protected space for wildlife and nature.
